While a moderate fitness level is ideal for enjoying the hike, determination and a strong spirit can compensate for a lack of training. Less active hikers might find the climb challenging, but with perseverance, reaching the summit is achievable.
Table Mountain is generally safe to hike. While incidents have occurred in the past, significant efforts have been made to improve security. However, it's always advisable to hike in groups exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings.
You can expect to climb between 700 and 1000 meters (2300 to 3300 feet) to reach the summit of Table Mountain, depending on the trail you choose.
Keep it simple. You don't need fancy gear. Here's what you'll need:
- Plenty of water
- A warm layer for chilly moments
- Hiking boots or shoes otherwise comfortable shoes (like sneakers)
- A small backpack
- Sun protection (hat and sunscreen)
- Snacks for energy
What to Avoid
Leave the fancy stuff at home. Avoid sandals, jeans, dresses, and lots of jewelry.
Additional Notes
Depending on the weather we might recommend extra items like a rain jacket.
